Alliance4Kids has transferred further CHF13.100 to Lotus Children. This amount was received by various private donors, from a private birthday party as well as from the Mongol Rally organization. Thank you very much for the trust and confidence.
The money is desperately needed by Lotus. It will be used to hire staff which will look after the kids. For strange reasons the Mongolian Immigration Department has reduced and limited the number of work permits for volunteers – which is used up by two foreign teachers and a social worker. The visa of one of the volunteers has not been extended – she had to leave the country. We shall now overcome this crucial situation by employing locals – but obviously they need to be paid.

SAD BUT TRUE……BUT ALSO SOMEHOW A HAPPY END:
Earlier this year Lotus reported they has been approached by a small Catholic orphanage in Ulan Batoor, which is being forced to close because it is being continually harassed by the local authorities. The orphanage was run by nuns who simply gave up and abandoned it in the end and flown home to Chicago. Now this orphanage wanted Lotus to take on its 20 children aged between 4 and 14. Didi wants to do so, but this is quite a large intake in one go, so she needs to work out how best they can fit in. Fact is if Lotus couldn’t take them, then we all suspect that their future would be pretty bleak.
A short time later Didi was told that if Lotus would take the children immediately then Lotus could have the building in which the kids were living. Didi did not think twice took over the yard and building and moved two housemothers there from the Lotus Centre in Gachuurt to care of the children on a temporary basis until she got to know them. She will now assess the children individually and decide where they would be best placed within the Lotus family. Some may go to Erdenet, about 6 hours north of Ulaanbaatar, where we currently look after about 9 teenaged boys in an apartment. Others will also find a place. The children themselves have been fine, but obviously the integration will take its time. The Lotus family is growing – even so faster than we planned for. Those are challenges on top of all the daily unexpected topics turning up.
Thank you Didi – rest assured you can count on our further support.

GREAT NEWS ABOUT SHAMOUI:
Shamoui, nicknamed as such because she is tiny and always buzzing around, has been at Lotus since she was a baby and has always loved to dance. Her talent has been nurtured and developed over the last few years and now at the age of 13, she has been accepted into the Mongolian State Ballet Academy. This very Russian sounding institution is the Mongolian equivalent of a Ballet School and she started full time there this term. She will be able to pursue her academic studies, as well as hone her dancing skills. It is a remarkable opportunity for a young girl abandoned at birth and who was brought up in a children’s home in a shanty town. It is also testimony to what can be achieved by the children at Lotus, where Didi is able to restore the kid’s self-belief and help them to discover and make the most of their various talents – whatever they may be.
