Vocational Training Workshop
Opening Ceremony Vocational Training Center
April 2017
As our children get older, we have an increased focus on learning new skills that can provide them will more opportunities for the future. Lotus started to build an extension on to our garages which became a workshop space for the older children to learn new vocational skills. In November 2017 Lotus officially opened the new skills training center at our Gachuurt site.
This facility has a purpose-built bakery, mechanics garage, hair/beauty salon training room as well as two multi-purpose classrooms that can be used for various other vocational skills training workshops, such crafts like sewing and felting. With this facility we can now bring in skilled teachers to give our children fantastic opportunities to learn and practice life skills. We are grateful to everyone who made this project possible, and a very excited to see the results it will bring.
Education
Although this is a project that will never be “completed”, it is one that where Lotus made huge progress within 2017. At the start of the academic year in September 2017 we had 11 children attending new private schools in Ulaanbaatar. This is part of our drive to bring better educational opportunities to our children either though scholarship or sponsorship, or a combination of both.
Most children at Lotus still attend the local state school in Gachuurt. We do have a few that started at private schools this year with the help of sponsorship. Four children at the English School of Mongolia, four at the Ulaanbaatar Elite International School and a further five at Mongolian private schools.
In the spring 2018 Lotus will start work on finding new opportunities for more children to attend better schools this coming September. In terms of other training Lotus have recently made an agreement with a local language center that is going to offer free English language tuition to many children which started already.
To finance further training opportunities, the Lotus children are still dependent on our support.
Training Workshop
The recently opened Competency Center is now part of the Lotus Children Campus. Enclosed 2 examples of how the young residents learn the craft (baking, barber)
In order to finance further training opportunities, the Lotus children are still dependent on our support.
Chicken House
Recently a new chicken house had been built – and now we do have our own supply of free range eggs.
Next on the agenda is building a greenhouse so that vegetable can be grown.
Unexpected Arrivals
Over the last few weeks we have had 10 new children arrive – 5 of them under 9 months old. We have taken on two new members of staff to help deal with all these new children.
In order to finance further essentials for those children and to help supporting the wages of the new staff members, Lotus children are still dependent on our support.
Happy New Year
